Day Three
Rained on and off for most of the morning, but nothing too bad. The girls went back to the beach. The little creek that runs into the lake near our campsite had a lot more water in it and the girls built dams there for some time. Around 11 AM, we headed out for a hike. Took the Orphan Lake trail. Started after eating lunch at the trail head. First lookout was a good view of orphan lake and lake superior in the distance. Lots of Lady Slippers along the trail. Then descend 100m to orphan lake and back up again for another lookout over lake superior. Then back down to go along the shore of lake superior where we sun bathed for a while. After that, climbed up along side a small set of falls on the Bald Head River. Brenna and Stewart swam in the pools above the falls. Hiked back to car. The brochure said the hike was 6km, but GPS put it closer to 10km with lots of up and down (100 to 200m at a time). The weather around here is very volitile. During the course of our walk it went from dreary and raining, to sunny, to foggy (with big temperature drop) and back to sunny and warm. We Returned to camp in time to make dinner. Before dinner, Kaitlin, Stewart and Brenna had a brief swim in Lake Superior (proof is on video). Not as cold as south shore of Nova Scotia, but very brisk. Everyone went to bed tired. Another thunder storm rolled through over night. Very windy this morning, but sun is starting to try to make itself felt.
