Day Twenty One
Sunny windy and cool this morning. We decided to go to Banff for the day. Went to the beginning of the National Parks in Canada by going to the Cave and Basin hot spring. This is the hot spring discovered by 3 CPR workers in the 1890's. The girls thought it stank. You can no longer bathe there or even touch the water because of the threatened Banff hot spring snail found only in the Banff area hot springs. Banff has become a very busy tourist town. In the summer I'm sure that the streets have the same number of people as downtown Toronto.
After lunch we headed up to Tunnel Mountain There is no tunnel here but the name stuck. This little hike is 2.3km and goes up 300m. A beautiful view of Banff, the Banff Springs hotel and the valley on the other side. We did a Geocache on the top placed in 2001 by a couple from Texas. Great hiding spot. Back for supper and campfire and bed.
