Day Twenty Six

Again awoke to the sound of rain. It slowed down after breakfast and we finally could start to see the mountains again. We went to Maligne Canyon near Jasper Park Lodge. This is another spectacular canyon. We started the hike at the fifth bridge over the river -- a fun and bouncy suspension bridge. The river is wide and fast at this point -- good for kayaks. As you travel upstream, the river narrows and goes through many series of beautiful rapids and waterfalls. As you get close the fourth bridge, the tourists show up (close to the upper parking lot). The river runs along a fault line and drops down 40m. You can see how the river has been able to wear the stone away and make the river deeper over the year. On the way back down we did another geocache and saw a big horn sheep in the trail above us.

Back to camp for an early supper and a game of San Juan. A pleasant evening and prepared as much as possible for the big drive the next day.
