Day Twenty Three
We are sleeping in these days. The evenings very long as it does not get dark until after 10PM. It was raining this morning and after yesterday's hike, the only thing on our agenda was hat pins for Margot and Kaitlin, postcards for Brenna and chocolate for everyone.
We had a pancake breakfast and stayed at camp for the morning while the kids played. While making lunch our new neighbours moved in. They were Buddhist monks originally from Cambodia. They did not appear to be very camp experienced -- we met them when they came by to borrow matches. Stewart went over with the axe and some paper and got their fire going. It turned out that it was a few families and the temple leaders. The one family to arrive last knew what they were doing (they have been coming to Banff most summer weekends for many years), so they managed ok. The monks did seem cold most of the time and they sure burned a lot of wood. At this national park, you pay $7 for as much wood as you want to burn in a day.
After lunch we went back to town of Banff in the sun/rain/cloud to do our errands. Returning to camp we walked to the start of the Johnston Canyon trail. We then hiked about 1km to the lower falls and another 1.5km to the upper falls. The lower falls are quite spectacular. A side trail on the lower falls takes you through a hole in the rocks and looking straight into the falls. The wind generated by the falls is really something. As the walk is well known, there are people from all over the world that you meet on the trail.
We got back in time to make dinner. We finally needed our latern to do dishes at 10:45 PM. First time we'd used it on the trip.

Looks as if Brenna had egg on her face! Hey girls, how are you doing - looks like a great trip. Kaitlin are you taking a lot of pictures too? And Brenna have you found any fossils?
