Day Two

The drive to Sault St. Marie was pleasant, but the lake was hard to see due to smog. The farmland befoe the Soo was a surprise, as was the 20km stretch of 4 lane highway that went through it. We Went into Sault St. Marie for lunch and walked around the waterfront area. Saw the locks and a couple of big laker boats. The drive along Lake Superior is enjoyable. Sort of reminds you of the some of the drives in Cape Breton (although the mountains are not as high). Arrived at Agawa Bay campsite in Lake Superior Provincial Park before 5PM. Picked a site that is right on Lake Superior. The view is superb although somewhat hazy. A pileated woodpecker came by for a visit as we were setting up. The girls have had a blast playing on the beach. The water is pretty cold and we have had to wade in to scoop cooking water because the water system in the park has had some sort of catastrophic failure. Good thing we brought the water purifier with us. Thunder storms rolled in over night and morning dawned with some intermittent rain, but the day looks promising.

During the drive we saw the following:
1 giant loonie (highway before the Soo)
1 giant moose holding a hunter by his hunting jersey (after the Soo)
1 bear with a beaver taking his picture (in Sault St. Marie)
