Day Thirty Five
We had a good sleep in the moutain air. A good breakfast of pancakes and sausages by request and we were ready for the day. Margot ran off and booked us all in for the 3.30 trail ride, while the rest of the gang did the dishes. We then drove Through the park on the Going to the Sun Highway that winds itself up through the park from east to west. What a road! This road is wild, narrow and awe inspiring. Your vehicle must be no longer than 21 ft, no more than 8 ft wide including mirrors and no towing. If you feel uncomfortable you can take these tour buses which are orginally from the 1930's and look like a great ride. Joining us on this drive was a group of antique Rolls-Royce cars on a Through the clouds tour. They were from all over and what a great job they did of climbing up the mountains. At the top we say Mountain Goats in their beautiful white coats and wnow realize that we have only seen mountain sheep in our travels. We did a picnic lunch on the east side of the park at St Mary's lake.
We returned to our site so that we could go riding for 3.30. This is the first time Stewart had been on a horse as an adult and I think that he did enjoy the ride. His horse's name was Montana and Kaitlin unded up on her little Appy Okechobee behind him and could give him some pointers. Margot followed Kaitlin on old Pete who was more than happy to have his nose up Okechobee's butt. This did not please Kailtin's horse who was more than willing to give Pete the boot, so good thing Mom could keep Pete back a few feet. Brenna ended up at the beginnig of the ride right behind the guide on a very nice Appy. She had a great ride there. We were out for just over 2 hours and according to Stewart one and a half hours would have been better.
The ride put all the girls into a great mood so we had a pleasant dinner and off to bed. The birds that went to bed with us and woke us up in the morning were "whistle birds". They made a one tone whistle that sounded like a coaches whistle, it was not much better than the owls the night before.
